We found Burma Bistro in a nondescript strip mall in Santa Clara. It's a tiny mom-and-pop restaurant that's been around since 2015, but it's so small that if you blink you'll miss it. I've never had Burmese food, so this was an adventure for me. When we first arrived there was no staff in the dining room. We waited a bit and then peeked our head into the kitchen and the server told us we could sit anywhere (it wasn't crowded). The menu was via QR code. When the server came by my husband ordered the goat stew. I asked for a recommendation. I wanted to try something with chicken that was spicy. The server recommended the mango chicken. We also ordered the Burmese iced tea and coconut rice. My husband liked his goat stew. It wasn't to my liking, but as I've never had goat it was interesting to try it. The mango chicken, however, was great - strips of chicken with mango and onions. They did add some chili pepper in it, but I don't know if it normally comes that way or if they added it since I told them I was looking for something spicy. Either way, it was somewhat spicy and delicious. The Burmese iced tea (brewed tea with sweetened condensed milk) was quite nice. There's plenty of parking in the strip mall. I'll definitely go here again and try some other Burmese dishes.

Burma Bistro 2135 El Camino Real, Santa Clara, CA 95050 · (408) 372-5422 https://www.burmabistro.net/ December 17, 2023. Still on cloud 9 after watching Mamma Mia the Musical at San Jose Center of The Performing Arts. (Mamma Mia, here I go again My, my, how can I resist you? Mamma Mia, does it show again. My, my, just how much I've missed you?) Parental Unit and I major craving for Burma food. Always believe in the saying don't judge a book by its cover. It may not look all that from the outside but once inside it's a different story. * Ambiance is very casual. Small place. Clean. * Portions are generous. Yes, they can make it vegetarian friendly. *The staff - very friendly. Attentive. *Palata and Dip. Multi layered bread with coconut chicken curry sauce or vegetarian dip. *Calamari with House Sauce. *A MUST- Tea Leaf Salad. Pickled tea leaves on a bed of Romaine lettuce, cabbage, tomato surrounded with toasted garlic, crispy yellow & green bean, roasted sesame seeds and peanuts, squeeze of lime. LOVE LOVE that they mix it for you before serving. *Garlic Noodle. Flour noodles, garlic and scallions tossed in a special house sauce with chicken. (Vegetarian version available with Fried Tofu). *Mango Chicken. Stir fry fresh mango, chicken breast and onion. *Sesame Beef. Stir fried beef strip with batter, house sauce and sesame seeds. *Eggplant Tofu. Stir fried eggplant with tofu in house sauce. *Traditional Burmese Coconut rice. THE AROMA of the coconut rice. Yes, it was still empty when we arrived, since we were there as they opened at 5:30pm. The restaurant was more than half filled with customers when we neared the end of our experience. We enjoyed our visit. It hit that Burmese-food-craving spot. Will make another stop should we find ourselves around here - AND have that craving once again.

4.5* I've been wanting to bring my boyfriend to try Burmese food for such a long time now, and we finally got around to it! Burma Bistro has been a go-to for my family and I, we've been coming here for years and the quality, portions, and prices have always stayed super reasonable. It's in a plaza with plenty of parking, and the interior is wooden and cozy. I do wish they played some sort of background music however, as it was pin-drop quiet in the restaurant, even with other customers. We came on a Tuesday evening around 7:30pm and there were plenty of seats available. The service was good, the sweet waitress who helped us out was so nice, she seemed new and nervous, but did a great job! You view the menu via QR code posted on the table, and order with the waitress. We decided to go for the Palata with Dip, Moh Hin Ga, and of course the Burmese Tea Leaf Salad. My boyfriend absolutely LOVED the chicken curry dip that came with the Palata. For those from Southeast Asia ifykyk, this was extremely similar to the wonderfully flaky prata and chicken curry! The absolute must-try for me every time I come here is the Tea Leaf Salad, it is so unique and the flavors mesh so well together. It's crunchy and tangy and honestly a little umami from the fish powder that they incorporate! The tea leaves and lemon give it a really refreshing flavor, and the portion size is huge for $14! I also love that they mix it table side, giving you the option to opt out of jalapeños. We also went for the Moh Hin Ga because we were both craving warm comforting noodle soup, and this really hit the spot. The broth is so flavorful and a little tangy somehow??? My favorite part is the crunchy bits of fish that soak up the soup, and I especially love the type of thin noodles they use. We had so much food, and still took away some! Overall, such an affordable dinner with huge portions and yummy food :)

A solid Burmese food experience with great service. The food was tasty, but I do feel like there are some other spots that do it just slightly better. That said, Burma Bistro hits the spot--and the price is very good for what you're getting. Went for a quick dinner with wifey and baby. Ordered the Tea Leaf Salad (you have to order this at any Burmese restaurant you visit), Burmese Beef Stew, and Chicken Dan Bauk. The Tea Leaf Salad was excellent. Done very well. I will say that I feel like there is just something missing... perhaps the crunch of the lettuce! That said, the Tea Leaf Salad is still an excellent dish here. Burmese Beef Stew was fine. You need a carb with this dish. Either rice or some flat bread. The flavors are okay, missing something that makes you want to just keep going though. I would probably skip this dish next time. Chicken Dan Bauk was pretty good! I liked it. You have a mix of mixed rice and soft chicken. You'll find some soggy rice below, but the flavors are very good. With some picked toppings and crunchy toppings, it's a hearty and good dish. I think the food was done well, but not the best Burmese I've had. That said, the prices are very reasonable. Service was super nicely and very helpful. The restaurant seems like an old school hole in the wall restaurant that's a mom&pops shop. With some nice decor, it's a nice homey feel of a restaurant. My kind of digs. Plenty of parking in the private lot adjacent to the strip mall, I'd come back for a Burmese fix.
